My job as a book coach

My primary job is to get to know your story, your characters, your world, and to help you flesh them out.

I will never impose my own ideas on to you. Instead, we work from the material you have with the intent for you to craft the strongest, most authentic story that you are capable of.

My specialty

I specialize in speculative fiction, young adult, and anything exploring non-western worldbuilding and breaking biases.

As a person of color with a degree in history, I will help you gain a more rounded view of your characters and your story world, whether you're working with a smaller setting or building
entire countries

My coaching superpowers

  • Character motivation/ character arc
  • Fleshing out backstory
  • Interrogating biases without the pressure of changing your worldview

  • Multicultural societies

  • Crafting multi-POV narratives
  • Finding and filling plot holes
  • Working with your choice of story structure

the pitching process

  • I have worked on the agent side
  • I will find your genre from within your story
  • How much of your story to put in your query
  • Finding the through-line for your synopsis

More About Me

I’ve been a member of the writing community for over a decade with experience working in the publishing industry.

I also hold a degree in secondary education in history, have taught in the classroom, and have a deep understanding of western and non-western cultures.

As a Pakistani Muslim who grew up in the U.S. and Canada, I have plenty of experience exploring how to navigate between the various cultures I’m a part of.

Does my outlook on writing and storytelling appeal to you?

yes! I'm ready to start!

"It's okay. I didn't get it the first time either. There *is* no secret ingredient. It's just you."

"Ayesha has great instincts as a book coach, and I highly recommend her! "

Ayesha's reflections were a huge help in guiding me through the polishing stage of my new manuscript and synopsis.

While working together, she exuded enthusiasm for my project while simultaneously pointing out areas in need of improvement. She was timely in her emails and professional in her manner, and thanks to her insights and support, I'm now querying agents again.

- A.B.Westrick, author of Brotherhood

"Ayesha really helped take my story to the next level!"

Ayesha has been such a positive and encouraging force. She has helped me figure out areas I needed to focus on and where and how I needed to tighten up my storyline. She also found me resources for learning how to strengthen the weaker areas of my craft, all while being encouraging and supportive.

It’s been such a pleasure to work with her. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a book coach.
